    Severe windstorm and flooding (1981)

    On December 13, a powerful windstorm struck southern England and Wales during an ongoing cold snap. Combined with high spring tides, the storm generated a 1.45m surge in the Bristol Channel, producing the highest water levels of the 20th century in some areas and causing extensive flooding across North Somerset. The storm also claimed two lives when the Ecuadorian cargo ship MV Bonita was caught in the English Channel.
