The UK Met office starting naming storms in 2015.
They issue the names each September and the list runs from early September until late August in the following year.
A storm is named when it has the potential to cause an amber or red warning.
To ensure consistency with the US National Hurricane Centre naming conventions, the Met Office do not include names which begin with the letters Q, U, X, Y and Z. For 2023/24 the names are:
