London Stansted Airport (STN) is an international airport just outside Bishop’s Stortford in Essex and 30 miles northeast of central London. The airport’s name is taken from the nearby village of Stansted Mountfitchet.

In February 2013, Stansted Airport was bought by Manchester Airports Group (MAG) from Heathrow Airport Holdings for a sum of £1.5 billion.

Stansted Airport currently flies to over 170 destinations in 35 countries across Europe, North Africa, Central and North America. As well as operating as a hub for various low-cost carriers, Stansted airport’s runway is also shared by a number of private terminals such as the Harrods Aviation and XJet terminals, private ground handlers who provide services for private flights, charter flights and state visits. Stansted is also the UK’s second largest freight airport, used primarily by UPS, FedEx and TNT.

Stansted is the newest of the three main London airports, having opened its first passenger terminal in 1991 to relieve pressure on Heathrow and Gatwick. The airport operates a single runway, 3,048 metres in length.
